Bearslake Inn
Nestled between Okehampton and Tavistock in the peaceful hamlet of Lake, Bearslake Inn is a beautifully preserved 13th‑century thatched Devon longhouse, offering exceptional food, warm hospitality and cosy accommodation on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. With its traditional character, stunning gardens and unbeatable walking routes from the doorstep, it’s one of Dartmoor’s most loved country inns. [
A True Devon Longhouse Steeped in History. The oldest part of Bearslake Inn dates back to the 1200s, originally serving as a Devon Longhouse, with space for both family and livestock, and later evolving into an inn frequented by travellers, walkers and even smugglers. Its cob walls, ancient beams and thatched roof remain carefully preserved today.
This historic charm is complemented by modern comforts, making it a welcoming retreat after a day on the moor.
Eat – A Celebrated Dartmoor Gastro Pub
As one of Dartmoor’s best gastro pubs, Bearslake Inn specialises in hearty, flavourful dishes crafted from the very best Devon produce—from farm‑fresh meats and fish to artisan cheeses, ice creams and traditional smoked goods.
Enjoy classic pub favourites cooked with care, seasonal dishes showcasing West Country suppliers and dining throughout the cosy bar and restaurant. If the weather is nice, you can enjoy beautiful al fresco meals by the babbling stream with views of Sourton Tor. The inn also serves lunch and dinner seven days a week, complemented by locally brewed ales and a curated wine list.
Drink – Local Ales, Fine Wines & West Country Spirits
The bar occupies the oldest part of the original longhouse and offers weekly guest ales, West Country gins, whiskies and spirits, World wines selected by local merchants, and soft drinks sourced exclusively from Devon. It’s the perfect spot to unwind after exploring the moors.
