Founded in 2015 by husband‑and‑wife team Simon Harris and Rachel Hicken, Pig & Olive began with a simple goal: to make exceptional pizza using proper methods, great ingredients and plenty of care. From those early days, the business has grown thoughtfully and sustainably, while staying true to its roots.
At the heart of Pig & Olive is its dough. Slow‑fermented for flavour and texture, hand‑stretched to order and cooked at high temperatures in a stone oven, it forms the base for a menu that balances Italian tradition with local Devon character. Classic toppings sit comfortably alongside seasonal specials, with a focus on quality produce and trusted suppliers wherever possible.
Today, Pig & Olive operates in several ways across North Devon:
- A relaxed, year‑round restaurant at Westward Ho!, tucked just behind the pebble ridge
- A takeaway and delivery base in Barnstaple
- A much‑loved mobile pizza van, bringing great food to villages and rural communities throughout the week
This flexible model allows Pig & Olive to reach people where they are – from busy coastal spots to quieter inland villages – while supporting local employment year-round in a seasonal area.
The business has earned widespread recognition for both its food and its values, including multiple Gold awards for Casual Dining. Judges consistently praise the quality of the pizzas, the welcoming atmosphere and the team’s passion for what they do.
