Venn Valley Vineyard is a small, family‑run English vineyard and winery set among the rolling North Devon hills near Barnstaple. One of only a handful of vineyards in this part of the county, Venn Valley benefits from lying on the same latitude as Germany’s renowned Cologne wine region, giving it excellent growing conditions for cool‑climate grape varieties and helping English wine gain its fast‑growing reputation for quality. Following years of careful preparation and vineyard cultivation, Venn Valley now produces a growing collection of still and sparkling wines, offering visitors a relaxed, rural destination to enjoy vineyard tours, tastings, and exceptional food at their on‑site café, The Vine.
Grape Varieties & Wine Styles
The vineyard grows a selection of grapes well-suited to English conditions, including:
- Pinot Noir, Seyval Blanc, Ortega, and Madeleine Angevine. These grapes are crafted into: Still white wines, Still rosé wines, and Limited-production sparkling wines. All wines reflect Venn Valley’s focus on expressing their vineyard site, North Devon climate, and land‑focused viticulture.
Tours & Tastings
Venn Valley offers guided Vineyard Tours & Tastings on set days throughout spring and summer:
- Tours run Thursday–Sunday at 10:30 am and 2:30 pm, with additional Sunday morning sessions.
- The experience includes a vineyard walk, insights into vine development and seasonal challenges, and an introduction to winemaking. Visitors enjoy a tasting of estate wines at the end of the tour. Booking is essential, and schedules vary seasonally. The vineyard prioritises sustainable land management, focusing on long‑term soil health and biodiversity.
The Vine Café – Food, Wine & Events
On-site, The Vine Café offers: Breakfast, Lunch, Afternoon tea, Homemade cakes, Wine & cocktails, Sunday roast
- Live music evenings and available for Private event hire.
All served in a bright, welcoming space with plenty of parking, dog‑friendly access, and scenic vineyard views.
The café operates independently of tour bookings and has its own seasonal opening hours.
Children and dogs on leads are welcome, making Venn Valley a family‑friendly place to enjoy North Devon’s countryside.
