Otter Vale is a third‑generation, family‑run producer based in Cullompton, Mid Devon, specialising in handmade, gluten‑free chutneys, preserves, savoury jellies and condiments. With a heritage stretching back more than 40 years, Otter Vale has become one of Devon’s most respected preserve producers, known for bold flavours, consistent quality and strong local identity.
Over Four Decades of Preserve‑Making
Otter Vale’s story began in the early 1970s, with roots firmly embedded in Devon food culture. The business has passed through generations of the same family and today is led by Ben Laxon, who continues to build on the original ethos of quality, simplicity and integrity. After three generations of producing food in Budleigh Salterton, Otter Vale relocated production to Granary Court in Cullompton, where the team continues to make all products in small batches.
The Home of Devon Chutney
Otter Vale is best known as the producer of the celebrated Devon Chutney (Onion & Pineapple), alongside the ever‑popular Devon Fire Chutney, both of which have become staples in farm shops and cheeseboards across the South West.
The wider range includes:

All products are handmade, gluten‑free, and produced without artificial colours or flavourings.
