South Devon Food Hub
Set in the beautiful Longcombe Valley near Totnes, the South Devon Food Hub is a growing centre of excellence for food and drink producers, sustainable agriculture and community learning. Designed to help Devon’s food and drink businesses “thrive, not just survive,” the hub provides high‑quality production facilities, office space, and a collaborative environment where local makers can scale, innovate and share knowledge.
A Purpose‑Built Space Supporting Devon Producers
The South Devon Food Hub was created to bring together like‑minded artisan producers, enabling them to share resources, efficiencies and expertise. Sharpham Dairy’s move to a new 7,000 sq ft creamery at the hub highlights its expanding role as a base for serious, sustainable food production.
Founded by Ian and Julie Dennis at their Longcombe farm, the hub offers facilities for businesses such as Devon Distillery, Orchard Drinks, Barbers Bean to Bar, and Sanctuary Coffee, providing a supportive ecosystem with room to grow.
What’s at the Heart of the Hub?
A Thriving Community of Food & Drink Makers
Producers benefit from shared distribution, packaging, office space and event facilities—all helping smaller businesses access efficiencies normally reserved for larger companies.
Sustainability & Provenance
Rooted in farming, sustainability and education, the hub promotes regenerative practices, connection to land, and understanding of where food comes from.
Innovation & Knowledge Exchange
The hub hosts workshops and events that bring together farmers, scientists, food businesses and community members to explore new techniques, research, and shared challenges.
Events, Workshops & Tastings
The South Devon Food Hub runs a lively calendar of events—from artisan tastings to farming workshops:
- Southwest Cheesy Tuesday (10 March 2026): A celebration of Devon and Cornwall’s artisan cheeses, featuring guided tastings and a cheese‑focused lunch hosted by Sharpham Dairy.
- ‘Pasture to Plate’ Workshop (9 July 2024): An inaugural event exploring regenerative farming, sustainability, and future opportunities for Devon’s rural economy, featuring speakers from Sharpham Dairy, Exeter University, the NFU and more.
These gatherings help strengthen the region’s food culture, giving producers and the public opportunities to learn, taste, and connect.
Celebrating Devon’s Best Small Producers
The hub champions hyper‑local produce. One standout example is the South Devon Food Hub Hamper, created by Sharpham Dairy and neighbours at the hub—a curated selection of local cheese, charcuterie, cider, spirits, chocolate, coffee and more, all made “just a stone’s throw apart.”
This hamper reflects the Hub’s ethos: premium quality, craft, sustainability, and a strong sense of Devon provenance.
A Catalyst for Growth
By providing modern facilities, knowledge‑sharing and a collaborative environment, the South Devon Food Hub supports:
- Start‑up food and drink brands
- Scaling artisan producers
- Farmers exploring new opportunities
- Community engagement with local food systems
- Business resilience and innovation in the South West
As Sharpham Dairy noted when moving its production to the hub, the relocation “takes the shackles off” smaller producers—unlocking growth and enabling supply to new markets.
